On Saturday March 23rd Swainsboro Police Department hosted the Civilian Weapons Course. This course was developed to assist the citizens of Emanuel County in understanding the law as well as basic firearms handling and marksmanship. This course gave those in attendance an understanding of Georgia law as it pertains to weapons carry and the use of force. Following the classroom portion of the course participants were given hands on instruction from certified firearm instructors on the fundamentals of marksmanship. The class was concluded by allowing each class participant an opportunity to shoot a course fire with his or her weapons on the firing range while getting hands on pointers on how to improve shooting skills.
The agency will be offering this course quarterly as part of the department’s community policing incentive. The course is open to participants who have a valid Georgia Weapons Permit. Please contact Swainsboro Police Department, Emanuel County Sheriff Office, or the Emanuel County Probate Office for applications.
